Spring Weekend

Because September 1 is the official first day of Spring in NZ, we decided to have a massive Spring Clean over the weekend.

Only it wasn't so massive. We tidied, we straightened--but we never "cleaned."

But C. spent time with Dad playing video games which is an important father/son bonding time.

G. and I did some shopping which is important mother/daughter bonding.  G. and I spent $100 at the $2 shop.  I say "$2 shop" but most of the stuff in there costs more than $2 which is silly.  Anyway, we bought heaps of cool stuff like stickers, notebooks, pencils, rubbers, bouncy balls, jewelry.  Cool stuff that the kids want.  And it all goes into the Reading Goodie Box.

The Reading Goodie Box is our brand new reading incentive prize box.  When C. reads any 10 books at his level (or 5 classics), he will get to choose 1 item from the Reading Goodie Box.  G. will have to read 20 books at her level but she must read them all by herself.

C. wanted to argue about the details of the RGB and how he earns his prizes. I absolutely refuse to count the books he is reading at school.  He is getting credit for those at school.  The whole purpose of the RGB is to be an incentive to read MORE!!! (and give them a way to earn junky little trinkets--instead of always begging for stickers and such, now they have a way to "earn" them--which is way better than a handout)

The new Kindle came and has already been loaded with 35 FREE classics and is ready for C. to earn some prizes.  He will usually do just about anything for a reward.

G. really, really wants a new lip gloss out of the RGB.  Enough to inspire her to want to read? We will see.
