Gigi vs Mama Duck

After helping this Mama Duck cross a busy road at the mall, Gigi thought a kiss from a baby duck was a nice repayment. Mama Duck was less enthusiastic with the idea.  Gigi got her kiss in the end but got wing slapped.

New cast-- finally!!

LPS house in a box

Gigi wanted help putting 2 boxes together to make a house for her Littlest Pet Shop animals.  She was going to draw pictures on the walls but I pulled out some out of date wallpaper sample books. We made some curtains, beds and cushions out of an old dress and some odd fabric bits from the op shops.
She loved designing it and having "bonding" time making it.  And she loves how it turned out.  I am thrilled we used some of the stuff I pack rat away for crafts.  Total cost was basically $0.

Gigi being Gigi

If Gigi disappears for a few minutes, there is just no way to predict what she may be up to while out of sight.  Take today for example.

Trip 2 to Orthopedics

The doctor was supposed to change the cast but just put fiberglass over the plaster instead.  Disappointment plus!

You can't even tell chickens lived here a month...

Chicken Falconry

These girls have been living in the shower in the kids bathroom.  Today they went out to a chicken coop outside where they are safe from predators (neighborhood cats). We are hoping the baby,  Rosabelle, is a genius and we want her tame.

New Year Ice Cream finish party!

There was some leftover ice cream but not anymore!

New Years Eve Gluttony

We eased our "no sugar" diet on NYE and totally pigged out on chocolate and ice cream until we couldn't even move.  All asleep by 10 pm only to have fireworks wake us up at midnight.
We enjoyed our pig fest so much,  we decided to do it every year!  New family tradition!  Healthy eating 364 days a year and then one day of utter abandon.  We felt like crud the next day but that was just a great reminder why we don't eat junk most of the time.
Here is Chance OD'd on sugar--  you can even see chocolate on his dirty face!

Cast art

Gigi gets a new colored fiberglass cast on Friday but wanted to decorate the plain white plaster cast first.  She said she is going to ask the doctor to take it home when it is cut off so she can put it on her stuffed animals and take pictures.
Here is the art so far

Gorge at Oxford

We drove to Oxford to the gorge.  The Waimakariri river is a braided river that cuts through the Canterbury plains from the Southern Alps to the ocean just north   of the city of Christchurch.  Oxford is a small town about 20 miles inland in the foothills.
The water is always cold, even in the summer.  And the bridge rattled fiercely when seven milk tankers passed directly overhead.
The cliffs were made of slate.  Chance had to give climbing a go and Gigi was not going to be outdone--even with a freshly broken arm.  I had to ask her repeatedly to stop monkeying up the face of the rock.
